power steering box???

I am heading to the pick a part tomorrow in the hopes to find a good power steering box, pump and brackets. I have a 68 4x4. the question is do I have to look for a ps box off a 4x4? what years can I use. the engine is newer and has the holes for the brackets so that should not be a problem. do all the newer boxes have variable assist? thank you for your help in advance

Re: power steering box???

I would go to rockauto and look up the boxes for that year and see what years it fits.

Re: power steering box???

68 4WD PS box Has a completely different output shaft than a 68 2WD box. Remanufactured 2WD 68 PS box is about $229 with core and 4WD PS box is $249 at least that's what my LMC catalog says. You might find one somewhere else cheaper. The 4WD PS box fits 69-72.
