I just crapped my pants!
OK maybe I didnt really crap my pants but I did come close. I just took the '68 out for a full power run with the new gears. Ive been babying it until now because my driveshaft was too short and I was only getting an inch and a half of spline engagement. A few light burnouts here and there but nothing major. I didnt want to rip the splines off the shaft. Anyway I got the right driveshaft for an Eaton from WES and got in in yesterday . I'll tell you what. Those 4.57 gears with thatDetroit locker work Great with that XS 274S cam . I found a secluded spot of road and power braked it up. My converter is a bit undersized so the brakes held the tires but as soon as I let off the brake they let go and I left two strips 50 yards long of rubber before I hit second gear . It pulls HARD all the way up to 100 mph . I'd say its running at mid to low 13 level which is pretty good for a pump gas 350 in a HEAVY truck.

sounds fun you havent crapped your pants till you pop a wheelie, i have done it before in my ford falcon, 428 cobra jet, narrowed nine inch, etc... it wasnt a big one but i almost had to change my pants when i got home.

A buddy of mine runs a high 8 second steel bodied small block Nova. How do you get 8 seconds in a steel bodied small block Nova? Well you start with a good chassis and you add large amounts of NITROUS OXIDE !!!! You cant even see the motor under all the direct port injection lines plumbed into the tunnel ram along with the dual fogger plates etc. Anyway he took me for a little run once when he still drove the thing on the street occasionally for street races when he only had an 8-71 with dual nitrous plates . It only ran high 9's at that point. I do believe I did crap my pants.
My dads got a 69 camaro with an 8-71 blown 468. As soon as he's done installing the 4 link hes letting me have it for a few months to do the body work. I intend on crapping my pants again.

yea...theres nothing like the smell of tire smoke in the morning..I took the ET streets off, and put the 295-15s back on...BIG mistake..a cop pulled me over...I swear I didnt try to light them up..I jumped on at a little to pass a guy..at about 25mph...it down shifted and got completely crossed up...lol..didnt get a ticket..the cop new me from the track..congrats Mike..any plans on a different converter?..im going to a 3500 myself

Thats pretty much why I dont run a automatic kickdown. Never have trusted those things. I have a hard enough time keeping the tires planted in the rain without a kickdown. I'd be all over the place if I had one.
I think I will pick up a 3500 stall converter later this year. The only thing I dont like about the high stall converters is the way they drive on WOT. Its just weird ..WWWAAAAAAAA.....

I normaly dont run the kickdown..I just hooked it up..my step daughter is going to drive the truck on a pass...and I wanted it to be easy in Drive....I manually shift, and I do not want her to manually shift..lol..thats all I need

sounds like fun. i'm about to run that same cam in my 408, should be pretty mild in the bigger motor, but a torque monster.

Mike..My xs268s is pretty lopey..its power range is 3000-6000...its in a 350..whats the power range of the xs274?

you guys need total controll over your shifting so you can let it rip
just a thought, but it was the best 170.00 i invested in my truck. it really gives a great feel to driving your truck...nothing like...one hand one the wheel..and one on the shifter.....mark hay that new cam sounds really great...sounds like it was a good move on that new drive shaft....i love working on my truck...... |

You guys are making me wanna get my truck on the road. I got a 415 stroker, XE284, Dart iron eagle heads, and a victor jr. Behind that a 700R4, 4.10's with a detroit locker. It runs, but no driveshaft, brakes or windows

Just crappin your drawers ain't bad. It's when your axxhole has to reach down and grab the seat cushion to hang on that means you've been in trouble. Running 40 on glare ice in a semi in the right lane when an old man going 10-15 in the left lane decided to exit. 60' of truck sideways across a bridge and getting it straight without hitting anything. Left a hole in the seat cushion about 3 inches across.
