87 3+3 4x4 swd rear width

OK,I've heard this rear is the same as a dually and know it's not. It's about 4 inches norrower than a dually Can anyone back me up on this. I know for a fact this is the factory rear so that can be ruled out. I'm going to pick up a dually rear out of the same year truck and need to know both widths so I have the correct one

Re: 87 3+3 4x4 swd rear width

Cab n chassis is 63", single is 67" and dually is 74".

First 2 will be 14ff, the latter being a Dana 70, maybe a 14 but unlikely.

OK,now where can I find those numbers,my front has the 60 stamped on front case making it a dana 60 but how can I figure out the rear. The tag has been long gone over the years of fluid changes

GU4 denotes a 3.08 axle ratio.

Re: 87 3+3 4x4 swd rear width

If it has 5 bolts around the yoke, aka pinion support, it's a 14ff. If the cover looks like a Dana 60, then it's a 70. But being it's a srw, 99% chance it's a 14ff.

Only gears available on 1 tons, 3.73, 4.10 and 4.56.

Yes, my point should have continued that I think the glovebox lid might have been changed. GU4 is the code for 3.08 axle ratio 1976-2002. He should check the ID number on the tag to the one on the truck.

Ya,it's got the bolts around the yoke and I looked at the wrong glove box lid. Forgot I changed it out. I know it's got the 4.10's in it. Thanks for all your help. I knew I wasn't loosing it,yet

I assume that these are axle widths. Not full outside of tire to outside of tire widths. Right? And are those measurements true just of our square body trucks?

Re: 87 3+3 4x4 swd rear width

there is a ****ton of d70 rears out there ranging from 65" to 75"+

but knowing your wms's can quickly tell you if it was a dodge, ford, or chevy.

14bff have 6 bolt around the pinion, ford 9" have five.

14bff can have gears as low as 3.21.

Those measurements are wheel mount to wheel mount. Mostly 73-87 style, never measured any of my 88-up stuff.
