Throwing belts
Hey guys,
So when I installed my engine I found out that some of the brackets didn't quite line up right because I went from the Gen1 350 to a VORTEC top end. I had to cut the alternator bracket to get it to fit. Everything looks like it lined up. But whenever I stomp on it it throws the belt. What gives? I know I'm not the only person that has a vortec set up. Is there another bracket that I can buy? I also bought some new chrome pulleys (crank and water pump) but they seem to wobble (out of round). I think I'm going to go back to the old pulleys and just repaint them. But back to the brackets, I also found out that the rear A/C bracket wont work either because the vortec topend. So is there any place to pick up brackets that will work?

Re: Throwing belts
I would get a serb belt setup from a salvage yard and bolt it on. Get one from any truck with a Vortec 350 or a 4.3 Astro van or Blazer. It will bolt right on and you wont throw any more belts for sure. Take the A/C lines from the donor vehicle too so you can have hoses put onto those fittings to work for your truck. Good luck.

Re: Throwing belts
I'll have to call around. I don't have A/C right now. The P/O tore it out. But I want to add it back. He had a short so it won't be as easy as I hoped.

Re: Throwing belts
Can you do an electric water pump on the serp belt?

Re: Throwing belts
Maybe with an aftermarket serp belt set-up. Not with the factory stuff that I'm aware of.
