As for stock manifolds, I have 2 or 3 sets of ram's horn manifolds that were given to me. None of them are the 300-horse manifolds, though.
I wasn't aware there were different ones....what are the 300-horse manifolds and what is the difference?

Re: Headers or No Headers That is the Question

if you put headers you,ll be replaceing them every 2-4 yrs as they rust out unless you get $tainless steel ones. my i suggest corvette ram horns, there 2 1/2" outlets

Are they the same just the outlet is bigger? Will I be able to bolt all my accessories back on with any modifications? If so sound like a good idea to me.

Re: Headers or No Headers That is the Question

I have cheap flowtech headers on my truck, and Ive blown two cheap gaskets and two $15 aluminum gaskets in 2 1/2 years. The headers have welded collectors and I don't have to worry about collector gaskets.

When I had A/C, I went and bought some grade 5 all-thread and some grade 5 nuts. and made some long studs with spacers on 'em and slightly notched a/c bracket.

even cheap headers will do good if you have the bolts REALLY TIGHT, and use ALUMINUM or COPPER gaskets.

I love my headers!!!! but I'd buy Hooker Headers next time!!!!!

The poor little 3.08 peg-leg rear end lets me do 100' burnouts with ease!!!!! I need to do some photo shoots, but I haven't had the time. The Holley still needs a little tuning and the 700r4 shifts at 3500 rpm WOT, but other than that, it's FINE!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!

You want to see wich is faster???? a '72 GMC 402 or a '70 Chevrolet 388??? ............................on second thought, better get the gears and the posi first!!!

no dude, even with the lower gears, the quadrajet, and the 2.5" exhaust pipes my stock 402 won't outrun that 383.

I might slate a quick run with my 5000lb 4x4 though. That should be a fairly good show. Till you get your gears straightened out anyway!!

(and I get to use the 4high!!!!) you wouldn't believe the launch I can get, gives me a hardon. I have snapped the joints on both front axles though!

Now, aren't you glad you didn't invest a couple years and all your spare cash on a salvage yard LS motor?

WELL............................................................... I love the motor, but buying premium, getting 10.5 mpg with a 700r4, and driving 250 miles a week is kinda hurting me.

I think the mpg will come up a little once I get the carb tuned. IF I can keep my foot out of it!!!!

OldSkool71: sorry for hijaking your thread

Re: Headers or No Headers That is the Question

Had two sets of headers on my 69 over the years. Both had fit problems and the high temp coating is flaking off the latest set. I'm done with them, especially since the truck has only a mild 350.

Just ordered a set of Dorman ram's horns -- the kind that angle back. Should be good for the next 30 years.

BTW, a buddy of mine has full-length Hooker Comps in his 66, and they are very nice -- fit well with no leaks. Same is true for another buddy with a 56 sedan. So, if you gotta go headers, go Hooker.
