Long box one piece drive shaft??
i have a 71 long box that i just swapped a 454 and TH400 into. i would like to take the truck to the drag strip on the weeks and i'm not so sure if the 2 piece drive shaft would hold up. what would i have to do to make a 1 piece drive shaft work?

Re: Long box one piece drive shaft??
a 2 piece is stronger than a one piece, and is able to maintain better driveline angles. Make sure it is in good working order and it'll be fine

Re: Long box one piece drive shaft??
Your driveline will probably hold up, but your bearing carrier will not, specially if is not the OEM beariing carrier, I had a two piece driveline on my shortbed and replaced the carrier didnt even lasted 4 months, so I just had them made me a 1 piece driveline, now, for your long bed Ive never seen one with a 1 piece driveline, my suggestion would be to to get a heavy duty bearing carrier but they are pricey$$$. Good luck.

I had a 1 piece drive shaft put in when I found out that would be the cheaper route when my carrier bearing and u-joints went bad. It was just under $300.00 to have it made, and installed with new u-joints.

No problems with clearance... though I haven't had it lifted up to change the tires yet... then again, I'll just make sure to insist that they lift it using the back axle.

Re: Long box one piece drive shaft??
All you need is a 3/4 ton drive line & bracket set up. The carrier bearing holds up fine. Launch after launch @ 3600 RPM. The standard center hung will break in seconds.
You don't need any thing fancy. My Truck scales out at 4013lbs with me in it. So to launch @ a 1.65 60' time after time it's tried and true. |

Re: Long box one piece drive shaft??
no 67 - 72 LWB 2 wheel drive truck was ever sold with a one piece shaft. Most (if not all) full sized cars had 2 piece shafts too.
