1/2 ton VS 3/4 front Suspension

Hey guys. Got an odd question. My buddy is building a 66 and is planning to use the front suspension from a 2WD square body because they direct fit to his frame. He has a great lead on an 84 3/4 ton 2WD. The question is, would the 3/4 ton interchange with the 1/2 ton? We know the bolt pattern will be different. But otherwise, are they the same?
Here is the link to his post in the 60-66 thread. Thanks for the help.

Re: 1/2 ton VS 3/4 front Suspension

That is a great question. I would think since I own 2 C20s and use to own two C10s the front is the same save for the rotors and spindles and that maybe just maybe one would be able to bolt a C20 front in it's entirety. to a C10...but that limits your wheel choices.....and not to mention, two spares....one 5 lug one 8 lug....

Well he has a nice set of 8 lugs for it if he goes that route. We just are not sure if the front section of frame are the same between the 2. If they are, then we are going to build the 66 with 8 lugs.

the control arms and all of the ball joints are different as well.... the arms are different to accommodate the larger ball joints.

Re: 1/2 ton VS 3/4 front Suspension

The crossmember is the same where the control arms bolt up, so if you replace the control arms out you will be fine. I'm not sure though about the year change & 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton on the idler arm, pittman arm, center link & tie rods, you may have to swap to the steering parts from the 84. Also the brake lines are ran in different spots be tween these years, the 66 brake line is mounted on the rear part of the crossmember under the upper control arm, the 84 is ran right trough the frame in front of the crossmember. But I'm pretty sure that the 71 - 72 brake lines are what you'll need to get the brakes working.
