Re: Stupid question
Patina is just the factory paint job that has surface rust. Gives it the old school look. This truck from what I believe is a factory paint job with new paint on the lettering. It was weatherd to look patina

Re: Stupid question
Here is what Noah Webster, George Merriam and Charles Merriam think it means. I think 1b, and 2 are most accurate in this instance.
Patina 1 a : a usually green film formed naturally on copper and bronze by long exposure or artificially (as by acids) and often valued aesthetically for its color b : a surface appearance of something grown beautiful especially with age or use 2 : an appearance or aura that is derived from association, habit, or established character 3 : a superficial covering or exterior

Re: Stupid question
Here is what it looks like on one of my ship models. BTW this model was the only one to survive Hurricane Katrina out of 20 that were build at our shop. It was on the second floor at my office, I don't believe I'll ever sell it like others.

Re: Stupid question
And according to the highly respected Urban Dictionary,
1. patina 17 up, 7 down The term that antique appraisers and collectors use to describe rust or age on an old object to try to increase its value. "My 85 Oldsmobile Cutlass Brougham has a very nice patina on it." 2. patina 6 up, 3 down Verb. To throw a load of feces in a sleeping person's face. Preferably while filming for distribution on youtube. Similar to antique. 3. patina 5 up, 3 down verb: the act of throwing a load of scat in the face of an unsuspecting victim while asleep or passed out, preferably videotaped for distribution on the internet. Similar to antiquing.

Re: Stupid question
A term people use instead of rust bucket. Most people would say: "Damn that things a rusty piece of crap". Others: "It has a nice patina". Both sentences are saying the same thing. This may not be the definition everyone sees, its just mine I guess.
