6.0l wiring question

I'm wiring up my 6.0 and trying to figure out what I need on the harness and what I can do without. I'm running a 4L60E and I'm customizing a factory harness. I was wondering if anyone knew if I had to use the gear selector sensor (I guess thats what it is!) on the side of the transmission where the shift linkage mounts. Also if anyone has done this, do you know which sensors and pins the PCM can live without? Thanks

Re: 6.0l wiring question

Thanks for the heads up! Did you do your own wiring or use a pre-made harness?

Re: 6.0l wiring question

Thanks!

Just curious but the "transmission, drivers side" is the park/neutral safety switch correct? And if so does yours have 1 plug or 2 on it?

Re: 6.0l wiring question

Not sure on it's exact title, but mine has one plug on the drivers side to the module that surrounds the shift linkage.

I think it has something to do with telling the PCM what gear it's in too.

Re: 6.0l wiring question

Ok thanks! I've got an extra plug and was trying to find out where the other one went because the wiring diagram was kind of vague.

Re: 6.0l wiring question

Since I just plugged it in tonight, I can tell you that my drivers front O2 sensor wires come out right next to the one that goes to the drivers side of the tranny. The O2 connector is a square shaped 4-pin.

Re: 6.0l wiring question

I have a black connector with about 6 pins in it. My problem is that I have already taken all the looms and tape off the original harness and I'm just assuming thats where it came from because the wires are about the same length as the neutral safety switch and I don't have anything to plug it into!!!

Re: 6.0l wiring question

Cody - I was just looking over some of my diagrams, and I see there is a 6-pin plug for the tranny that is the "Park/Neutral Switch". Keep in mind, this is for a 4L60E, but they might be the same.

This one lists the colors and functions as:

Looking at the end of the plug, with the latch on top:
(4 across the top, 3 across the bottom)

A B C D
G F E

A Not used
B Not used
C Not used
D Ground (probably black)
E Park Signal (Green)
F Park/Neutral Signal (Yellow)

Hope this helps.

Re: 6.0l wiring question

And its a black plug right? I'm running a built 4L60e behind the 6.0 so thats what I'm looking for, I'm sure. Thanks. Did you unhook your factory park/neutral safety switch in the column or do you have it wired up and both are used?

Re: 6.0l wiring question

I don't have that particular plug on my harness, at least I don't have one that looks like the one on my diagram.

I never thought of that, both are used right now. I suppose I could disconnect the truck's switch.

Re: 6.0l wiring question

Behind the starter, and slightly above it.
