Can someone tell me how to buff out the markings on a instrument panel lens so they can be redone.

I'm not aware of anyway redoing the markings on the 67-72 instrument panel lens. However, using a soft cotton rag such as an old t-shirt and permatex plastic polish in the blue and white can, you can hand polish the lens and in 20 minutes worth of work mine looked like brand new. Polishing on the backside did not mess up any of the markings.

Some of the other members havve been using polishing compound on the lens and getting the numbers off...someone else waid he used a razor blade with no scars.

Casey.... It's Prematex Plastic Polish. You might have trouble finding it in a store, but you'll find it at any aero-club or airport that operates light aircraft. They use this stuff on the plastic windsheilds, and not only does it clean & polish well, it also will remove light scratches. In the case of our dash panel lenses, it is not abrasive enough to remove the markings. If you can't find any Casey then pm me and I'll get some to you. It works absolutely the best for quickly restoring the lens. TJ

I've been working on my Ins. panel lately too, I'm almost to the point where I'll just buy a new one.....

Nope, it's not very expensive, and a little goes a long way. For a lens job you would certainly use less than 1/3 of a baby food jar. Use it sparingly like you would a rubbing compund, no buffers. Your best bet would be to try some small local airport and tip the line boy to get you some, but take a baby food jar with you. You can buy the stuff, but then you'd have a lot left over. The plastic polish works great!!!! Mequiers also has some products out there that you can find in the wax section of auto parts stores. I have personally used these products on aircraft and I was not totally satisfied with the results. Permatex works!!!!!! Post a few pictures of your lens when your done! TJ
