ive seen alot of sites where they are building 2 link set ups for trucks, what if i were to take the trailing arms on my 68 and mount them up to the outside of the frame rail? my main reason for wanting to do this is to open up all the space inside the frame for exhaust since my truck has air bags and a step notch. It would also leave more room for the air tanks and compressors. What do you all think of this idea?

Not 100% sure, but I think that they were put on the inside for triangulation. It seems that if you move them to the outside, it could make them more prone to getting tweaked. (I'm guessing)

The 2 link setups I have seen use a pretty stiff 2x3 rectangle tubing(I think 1/4 wall). I agree with Randy, the stock arms may get tweeked if you are running them straight. Also, you may sacrifice a little ride quality,as the rear diff wont" rock" , or work independently over the bumps. my guess is it would ride more like a leaf sprung truck(tend to hop a bit over the bumps). i have thought about building a set of long bars for the longhorn, & run air bags for traction help. look at IFS custom site, & they show using an old leaf spring eye & bushing, welded to the bars for the front eye. Um, I know you don't ever listen to me, but stop being a tight wad and order the four link set up from somewhere and lets put in there this weekend. I know, I know, you can build your own, but we will all be old by then!! LOL

I was also wondering about that, Triangulation shouldn't matter cause you have a track bar, but the mounts would have to be pretty strong. You would also have to re-do your axle brakets. 4 link would be easier and better.

i ordered the pete and jakes trianulated 4 link, i just got done( is that proper english?) making a template of my frame so i can box in the last few feet of frame rails.They said the 4 link will be here tommorow( they are only a few hours from here). I got on the horn and located a 9 inch ford( yeah i said it) rear end. I have a thirdmember with a new eaton posi and richmond 4:11 gears. That should keep me busy this weekend.
