Anyone running a 6spd Manual? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm starting to plan my '72 short step build (starting sometime in the spring) and it's looking more and more like I will do an LS swap. Also, I want a manual...anyone here running a T56 or something similar or should I stick to a truck 5spd?

For those of you that are running a 6spd (if there are any) what shifter set up are you using?

I'm not right now, but I've got a PT/handling truck rollin' around in my head that has one behind a 6.0 LS. I say go for it!

I don't have an LS motor, but I am running a TREMEC TKO 5spd. I'm using a McLeod hydraulic throwout bearing and the TREMEC shifter with a Hurst stick for a bench seat car.

Then you, sir, have read my mind 'cause that's exactly what I'm shooting for with my build! A corner carving street fighter with a 6.0 and a 6spd that isn't afraid to go pick up some weekend landscaping supplies.

i think that setup would be the absolute best set up for our trucks.

If I were to put a manual behind a LS engine, i'd definatly stick with a t-56. If you put a t-5 behind it, it will be toast very shortly and the other 5 speeds that may handle the power would probably be more expensive than the t-56.

Also, make sure you get an LS1 t-56. The LT1 t-56s have a goofy clutch setup.

As far as the shifter goes, I know the "Pro 5.0" shifter I had in my '01 formula had a removable handle, so you could just make a different length handle more suitable for a truck and bolt it to the base.
