Jimmy to Blazer Conversion?

I've been on the hunt for a 69-72 Blazer. But I stumbled upon a 72 Jimmy, so I'm curious if I get a blazer grille will it bolt right up without changing the fenders/hood over? Or do I need to find the entire front clip?

And on that note what are the major cosmetic differences? I know the front clip/tailgate/emblems. But is there anything else without really getting into the minor things?

The front clip and radiator support are different. Where in PA are you? I have a blazer that I am looking to swap over to a jimmy this winter.

just wondering why you would want to swap 4 headlights for 2. and a metal grill for a plastic one.

Re: Jimmy to Blazer Conversion?

I haven't bought the jimmy just yet, I'm hopefully going to check it out sometime this weekend. and I'm down by Pittsburgh. I didn't realize the rad. support was different either.

And thats all it is, I'm just more of a fan of the classic chevy front rather than the jimmy. To each his own.

Actually the radiator support is the same you just have to remove bracket that hold headlight buckets these are spot welded on. I did this conversion for a friend of mine a few years back but we went with the 68 slope front end. this is a easier swap since GMCs used the same fenders from 67-72 all we had to do was change the hood and grill.

Re: Jimmy to Blazer Conversion?

If the Jimmy is nice and you end up with it, drive it for awhile. You might end up liking that front end. I for one never considered the GMC grills as attractive before I owned mine. It really grew on me.

If you must change, I would just turn it into a 68 otherwise its a whole front clip swap.

Which ever, happy hunting and make sure to post pics of your new purchase.

Re: Jimmy to Blazer Conversion?

I have a 1970 2wd Jimmy that the previous owner did a swap to a Chevy. I'm going to be swapping it back to a Gmc. I like the looks of the Gmc and you don't see many Jimmys around.

Man I am in the same boat !!! I have a 71 Jimmy and I just can't make myself like the grill/4 head lights/Jimmy front end !!!! I am doing a total frame off starting tomorrow and I had to buy new fenders, inner and outter, radiator support, light and parking light assemblies etc.. Good luck and I agree totally !!!

Re: Jimmy to Blazer Conversion?

I was in the same boat. I have a 72 Jimmy that I wanted to convert because I had always seen more of the Chevy's and liked them. Now that I have driven it a while, I wouldn't change it for anything. The 4 headlights have really grown on me, and they are much more rare.

Re: Jimmy to Blazer Conversion?

I like all the 67-72 grills. I went with a 67 gmc since it was a 1 year only thing and I found one in a barn in Kansas about a 1/2 hour from where I was raised. I also like that everyone has switched there GMC's to chevys, makes a gmc grill stick out even more.

Re: Jimmy to Blazer Conversion?

Mine is actually a 67 grille also. I like that look better, and it was the only one that actually said GMC.
