In 77 or 78 they changed the tops of the fenderwells and made bigger holes for the water and stuff to drain out. So you don't really see rust there as much as you did in the earlier trucks.

I had a 73 that had the rot above the wheels, I didn't know the General made a change

Yep just wish they would have done something with the cab corners, and rear wheel well openings.

I put a '79 bed on my '73 for that reason. I was told that '79 was the first year they put those drains in... but I ain't sure...
