Edelbrock 1406 or holley 600

okay guys, I rebuilt the edelbrock 1405 for my truck but have decided to save it for another project. I have decided to treat my truck to a new carb.

I called up advance and they have an edelbrock 1406 for 300.00 and a holley 600 for about 279.00. Which would be more suited to my daily driving habits. I have a 350/350 combo under the hood with full dual exhaust. Thanks.

Stock or modified?
Either one will work. The 1406 is easier to tune.

Re: Edelbrock 1406 or holley 600

I looked at all the posts in the search forums and the 1406 seems to be the one most people like. It's a stock motor with hooker headers running out to flow 40's

I've always liked my Holleys for racing, but I really like the 1406 for street engines. They are very easy to tune.

Either will work, but I prefer the Edelbrock 1406

Re: Edelbrock 1406 or holley 600

Yo! Yeah, I've had to tune most of these carbs at one point or another and damned if this friggin' 600 Holley isn't a pain in the ass with it's backwards adjustment,...and it's not a fine enough thread on the adjustment screws,...seems like you have to be within an 1/8 to a 1/16 of a turn to be at the sweet spot. You can hit it, but it requires trial and error that most of the other carbs do not.

Re: Edelbrock 1406 or holley 600

I just bought my second 1406 in less than a year. For a second truck.I was at advanced Auto parts and they said they would match and bodys printed price.Like Summit,Jegs ect.At Automotive Engineering there price was 284.00 plus tax. They matched it and saved me 2 1/2 hour round trip.Maybe give that a try to save a few bucks.

Jegs sells Edelbrock 1406 for @274.99 (+ Tax?).... Ive been looking at it as well... but I also may have to upgrade intake... so that may cost more... but Im thinking on just keeping the stock... desisions!

The 1406 is much easier to work with than the 600 Holley.

I just put one on my 78 and it works great. Easy to adjust and tune.

Re: Edelbrock 1406 or holley 600

The 1406 works better for off road vehicles too since the jets are on the bottom of the fuel bowl and not the side of the metering block like the Holley.

You would have to be upside down for the 1406 to uncover the jets. It doesn't take much to do that on a Holley without jet extensions.

Edelbrocks have the opposite problem off road, the side float bowls cause it to flood very easily off camber where the center hung on the holley let it get to a much steeper angle before flooding.

Is this for a street truck or offroad?

He is talking the 600 Holley so it has side hung float bowls too.

You could fit the 600 Holley with center hung float bowls, notched floats, jet extensions and a vent tube cross over extension to make it work much better but then your cost just went way up.

It all depends upon how the truck is used.

Re: Edelbrock 1406 or holley 600

The Holley fit with center hung bowls definitely looks better.

For the money involved in the conversion you are better off getting a 3310 Holley to start with. It will work fine on a mild 350 if jetted and tuned properly.
