is this the problem and how much?

well i think it may be time for new brakes cuz it makes like a grinding sound and a shaking feeling every time i stop and my brakes squeak real bad right now...im purity shure this is the problem so now i just need to know how much does it normally cost too replace them i have disk up front and drums in the rear also if the problem sounds like something else please feel free to let me know

squeaking is front disk pads, shaking is uneven front rotors, most likely. brake pads are cheap, rotors arent as cheap, but if you can live with some shaking, leave them. once you pull the wheel off its pretty self-explanatory, i learned to do front brake by myself when i was 15 lol

new pads.you can probly cut the rotors but if there worpd that bad just get new front rotors.as for the back just pull of the drum and see how much material is left on the shoes.

Take a look at your rotors. If they still have a tapered edge, they might be thick enough to be turned. If you need them turned you will have to pull them and repack them with new grease. They will require inner seals too , but those are cheap.

Just don't wait long or the pads will gouge the rotors.

how much?

Front- $20 pads/$60x2 rotors/$5 grease.

if you take the outer bearing off and screw the nut back on you can pull the rotor off and the seal w/o damaging it. grease the bearings and reuse the seal to save a couple bucks.

usually if you have a pulsation in the front rotors it means the rotors have worn below the usable limit and are warped because there isn't enough material on them.

there is an easy check to see if it is your front brakes causing the pulsation, get up to a decent speed (55mph or so) and gently apply your e-brake, if you get the pulse with just your e-brake the rear drums are egg shaped, if you don't get the pulse with the e-brake it is the front rotors.

well it looks like ile be replacing the brakes tomarow and checkings some stuff out. and the truck dont really shake that much it shook like 2 times and ive been driving alot lately also when i brake i can feel the grinding through the brake pedal

Make sure you hold the release handle out and apply the e-brake slowly, or it could get real interesting!

I ususaly dont do this over 35, but thats just me.

Just remember, go to NAPA for ALL of your parts, %99 American made. Plus you are supporting the economy. Get real friendly with your local NAPA guy, I get a %40 or so discount, for 13 years now. The only time I go somewhere else is if he cant get the part or if he is closed and I need it now.

hate to disagree but all my brake parts from napa are not american made. raybestos rubber brake lines all 3 made in china, napa premium rotors made over in europe somewhere, along with the bearings, pads and seals. i was pretty disappointed myself paid for the best ones. the cheapy rotors are china though... europe i guess is better than china, or tiawan. Australia, canda, usa, or even mexico would have been my choice. take a look at the stuff before you by it...

I concur on checking parts at the counter. A few years ago I bought new rotors, pads, bearings, etc and drove the 60 miles back to the farm. When I had the truck front brakes disassembled, I found one of the rotors had a visible bolt in the turned surface. Obviously the furnace was not turned up high enough to melt the scrap prior to casting the rotor.

man u guys should have seen my old rotor ima take pics but the back side of it is all the way eatin through like theres holes and stuff the thickest part of the back side of the rotor is as thick as construction paper

Rotors are only 30 bucks a piece and the pads can be had for around 17. Rear shoes are between 20-30. I don't think you'll need new drums.
