Factory wheel restoration

I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this question but here it goes. I have an 87 4x4 with the factory bullet hole wheels. I am looking to restore them to their former glory. I appears the coating is flaking off. they are aluminum and I suppose all I have to do is sand and clean and shoot with clear. Has anyone done this or have pics of how theirs turned out? What is the best solution?

If you have a good powder coater in your area they can strip them and repowder them. I have seen other post about removing the clear. As I recall there is a kit you can buy that contains a stripper and a spray clear. Here is one kit http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/alwheel.htm Here is another http://www.thepontiactransampage.com/clear.html Hope this helps.

"Bumping" your thread back to the top is fine....But then copying and pasting it into another forum is not.
Please don't do this, it is against the rules.

Re: Factory wheel restoration

I stripped the clear off of my original '87 bullet hole rims with a chemical spray on paint remover from O-Reily's. Then just polished them up like any other polished aluminum wheel. Looked good to me.

Re: Factory wheel restoration

thanks for the info guys. sorry about the same question in two forums. I thought maybe I had the posted in the wrong section. What is the proper way to move a question to another forum, if I feel I misposted. The 87 forum moves so fast its hard to keep up with all the posts. I usually hang around the 47- forum it is a much slower pace there. Thanks for the info again.

Here is how I'm doing my Rallies. I had them blasted and primed. This winter when things slow down I'll sand the primer and shoot them with the Argent Silver. There not on the truck, I have the stock wheels on it now. Blasting them was the only way I could get all the crud off the Rally wheels.
