IFS question

My dad has a 48 GMC panel truck that he has had for the past 34 years, he is finally going to get started on it and is wanting to change it over to IFS.
I told him I would get on here and ask to see what companies you guys would recomend. He would like to get one that uses some of the factory holes to locate it, or one equally as simple to install. Most companies have options like manual or power steering, coil springs or bags, so I won't get into that for now.

I purchased a TCI (Total Cost Involved) Mustang II IFS from http://www.streetrodparts.tv and it was easy to install.

all of these weld in IFS kits for these trucks are based off the same design. "There is nothing different that you can do to make yours better than a JW, Heidts or a Fatman kit

Justin made a 1 off air ride for a 35 international one ton he went out of his way alot of back and forth emails and pics when it was done the fit was perfect...I have bought a bunch of Mis. part threw them..and there customer service is second to none...my first call is always to them

sorry dude it gone...I run them a year or so then mov on after I get about 5000 miles or so on them..but I think my truck now is here for a very long time

Not hardly.

All "OTHER" IFS systems are built and based off of Mustang II systems or other existing suspension components; that is how they can keep parts on the shelf. If they all take the same a-arm, they can make a hundred or so.

Every one of our IFS units are built to spec and per application. They are "based" on nothing. They are Designed, jigs built, a-arms made, and cross-members made, per order and per application.

On our shelves we have zero a-arms built, no cross-members laying around, and only pre-machined lengths of A-arm tube ready to make.

This is not a knock on anyones front-end, this is simply how we do it and how we do offer something that is 100% different than anything else out there. Don't let the looks fool you, a few degrees, inches, angles, difference can make or brake the front end.

Besides, who besides us offers a lifetime warranty

All aftermarket IFS is based of something. From what I see yours is a Hybrid MII where the JW IFS is complete MII so its like compairing apples to oranges. What spindle do you use? Is it MII or Impala or some other design?

I have never liked the top hat on a MII design and have never installed one for that reason. I do like the way you set the top of yours up with easy adjustments for alignment. What the weight limit on yours?

Not to argue a point here.....but to argue a point, this is simply not true.

What do you consider "based off of" to be? Do I use a Mustang II Spindle? yes in most cases. Is it the only spindle I use? No it's not.

The only thing our ifs sytems are "based off of" is a certain geometry we look to achieve based on the type of car/truck, weight, ride height, or handling characteristics the customer is looking to achieve. Once the numbers are plugged in starting from the wheelbase, frame dimension, and ride height, the 12 pivot points are programmed in to where they need to be, then the jig is made, and the ifs is built to those exact specifications.

let me put this in simpler terms.

If the CEO of GM decided to build a one off car to race on the salt flats, and had an unlimited amount of resources, he would not grab any Corvette/Camaro/truck suspension and stick it under that car. His designers would build him a front end that achieved EXACTLY what he was looking for.

Actually for the Mustang II that front end was perfect. Again, it was designed for THAT CAR.

I honestly could not tell you what the weight limit is on our systems. I mean if I had to guess I would say it maxes out at whatever the most commercially available spindle/brake combination would be. Maybe something off of a 2-ton truck (which we have done btw)

That was the answer I was looking for I just didn't form the question properly. So you actually build the IFS to meet a specific requirement on a per customer basis rather than a cookie cutter kit like most MII kits.

Is that like saying your chevy truck is based off a FORD truck??? I mean they both have wheels and a bed???...just kidding...and by the way when I get back tonight I hope to post a pic of that 2 ton air ride Justin is talking about... the pics are on the old puter...
