1960 V8 Swap Radiator Hose Question

I installed an 83 GMC crossmember in my 1960 short fleet and put a 350/700R4 in the truck. My question is what radiator hose will work on my application. I am using the stock 6 cylinder radiator along with a long water pump setup. I can use a flex hose for the upper but I am wondering if anybody has any done this and knows what they used for a lower. Thanks in advance.

Re: 1960 V8 Swap Radiator Hose Question

My 64 (stock gm) uses a hard line-metal hose for the upper, can you just get a correct v8 rad hose for the lower from the parts store?

Re: 1960 V8 Swap Radiator Hose Question

The 6 cylinder radiator has the upper hose in the center of the radiator and not off to the drivers side like the factory V8 radiator. I am unsure if the lower outlet is in the same location as the V8 radiator and those trucks also came with a short water pump...

Re: 1960 V8 Swap Radiator Hose Question

I think you can go to the parts store and ask for a hose for a 1960 with a 283. That's what I do for my '62. It has the upper hose in the center also. The offset radiators didn't come out until 63, I believe. 60-62's are in the center...v8 or 6.

Re: 1960 V8 Swap Radiator Hose Question

If you go with an original style upper hose, you will also have to use a straight thermostat housing and not the common angled thermostat housing. You might be able to use an original style lower hose, and just trim it a little to compensate for the long water pump.

Re: 1960 V8 Swap Radiator Hose Question

I have the center thermostat housing and the radiator is out of a 62 with a 6 cyl and has the outlet in the center also. A flex hose for the upper will work fine and I will see if the lower will work once its trimmed.

That's exactly what I did, Hoser. I went with the Summit (aluminum) swivel thermostat cover and a 70' Monte Carlo upper hose. A small trim and it fit perfectly.
