hydroboost...

I have the hydroboost setup left over from my abandoned 88-98 project. Can it be used on my 88 R20? What do I have to do to get it mated up to the firewall?

Future plans-
Rear disc swap & Hydroboost
Dually conversion with shackle flip-n-switch
4x4 conversion with 52" springs
Maybe some new body panels

Re: hydroboost...

OK, let's try it this way... is the hydroboost unit the same between the two bodystyles, not counting the bracket? In other words, could I remove the 88-98 bracket and find/fab one from a pre-88? Surely someone's messed with hydroboost.

Has there been a mass exodus away from the 73-87 portion of this site? Seems alot of old regulars are pretty quiet...

Re: hydroboost...

Hmmm...I could probably take a pic tomarrow of the hydroboost in my '79 if that would help. Otherwise I don't know much about the system...

Re: hydroboost...

That would help me out a bit, if you don't mind. Thanks!

Re: hydroboost...

1 tons came with hydroboost. With a little fab you can adapt it.

Re: hydroboost...

Here's some pics of my Hydroboost. It seems to be mounted on some kind of bracket which is then attached to the firewall...

Not all 1 tons came with hydroboost, If it came with a small block it had the regular vacuum booster. All big block trucks came with hydroboost because they don't make enough vacuum.

There's a couple pictures of a small block 1 ton '79 above with the factory Hydroboost. I also used to have one with a big block, which had a vacuum booster.

I don't know why you could not. They have put Hydro-boost systems in all kinds of cars and trucks. A buddy of mine has one in his 38 chevy car. Can you not use the bracket you have.

Thanks for correcting me, what i meant was small blocks came with hydro or vacuum booster. Did your truck come with a BB and vacuum booster from the factory?

As far as I know it was factory, in a big 3/4 ton camper special.

I don't know yet... the hydroboost unit is still on my 88-98 project that I'm taking apart, and it's at a different location than the truck I am working on. I was just wondering if maybe someone knew from experience. The two things I am concerned about is a)would it have the same "bolt pattern" as the firewall in my truck, and b)would the pedal rod be the correct length.

Re: hydroboost...

WOW, can I just have that entire engine compartment? As far as I can remember, the brackets posted in this thread seem to look like what I have.

Do you think (assuming the bolt patterns are the same) if I measured from the hole in the brake pedal to the firewall and add that to the distance between the firewall and the face of the hydroboost unit... if that summed distance is the same or pretty darned close to the same on my truck... it would be safe to assume the rod is the correct length?
