Brake pedal swap
I have a 68 short step and I love the truck, but the brake pedal has always got on my nerves. It is to high up. I feel like I`m trying to put my foot on the dash when I mash the brakes. I`m also going to swap out my stock bench seat for bucket seats and I think the brake will give me more problems. I`m going to be putting power brakes on the truck(it currently has manual). Is there anything that I can do to the existing pedal or is there a newer setup that would work.

Is the rubber bump stop and plate in place?

Re: Brake pedal swap
You should take a look through the FAQ section. There is a post by Kevin, Lewis Fabrication & Design "LFD" about lowering the pedal in his project low buck truck. I don't know if his offer is still available but at one time you could send him your pedal and he would mod it for you and mail back for minimal coin. If you can weld you can do it yourself.

Re: Brake pedal swap
There is definatly no bumpstop. There is about 8 inches of travel before it has any resistance on the pedal. I could have welded a peice to keep the pedal down to where it was say an inch before it hit resistance, but i didn`t know if that would keep presure on my brakes or what so i didn`t. How much will power brakes lowere the resistance point.

Re: Brake pedal swap
If your pedal travel is 8" before the brakes work you've got a brake problem! My pedal travels about 1" before my brakes activate. I would check out your master cylinder and brake adjusters.

Re: Brake pedal swap
Yeah, 8 inches of travel is not correct. Must have air in the system or incorrect or misadjusted push rod.
