Re: Aluminum Gas Tanks - Group Buy ends May 9, 2008

UPDATE:
Tank #2 final sales price was $340 shipped, that's enough savings for a two year subscription ($50) to this board just for buying bulk! Thanks guys for making it happen and it goes to show why this board always pays you back in one way or another. That price will change for future orders and or major changes to the plans... so anyone ordering after this group will have to get a new quote from Dave Boyd, he's a great guy to work with... I'll post pics once my tank arrives...

Re: Aluminum Gas Tanks - Group Buy ends May 9, 2008

OK, just got back from vacation and found that my tank had made it in... overall im pretty happy so far, there are a few little issues that were overlooked by the shop, I think they built it upside down so this means that the front and back will lean forward slightly instead of being square, won't affect performance and will barely be noticeable as you can tell... I should have made it sit about 1" higher as well. The level represents the bottom of my sport bumper so you can see that it tucks nicely. I also was going to have Dave but another 3/8 bung on the top so that I could add another check valve if the vented cap didn't work... It was a verbal request that wasn't on my plans and it didn't make it to final product. Can you tap aluminum with out having issues?

Great tank at a better price, would have been $400 shipped but with four of us buying it was only $340 each shipped....

Thanks for the photos. I saw an ad for his tanks before but was hesitant to buy because I hadn't seen any feedback on the forum. Now I think I'll but one and save vs what CPP is charging.

he is on this board now as well...

just verify that he will clean all the shavings out of the tanks and clean all inlets from slag...

Re: Aluminum Gas Tanks - Group Buy ends May 9, 2008

I went to Boyd's welding last week during a vacation to Florida.
It is a small shop that specializes in aluminum fab work.
Fuel tanks and float pods are the biggest part of his business.
Dave is very skilled and drew up a 3-D model on the computer for my tank. This will allow me to choose my inlet, outlet and level openings.
He has been very willing to work with me regarding changes without a bunch of up charges.
I put a down payment on a tank, as soon as I finish my side of the this (measurements, and locations) I should have the tank in about two weeks.
All of his quality seems to be in place and he has plenty of business in house.
