Need some advice from some part swap GURU's 84 to a 68
I just got a 84 chevy 1/2 4wd. I'm thinking about taking the drivetrain and putting it under my 68 2wd. What I would like to know is. If I take the spring perches and diffs from the 84 how much trouble would it be to put on the 68 frame. Now I KNOW there will be drilling needed done, and it wouldn't be a direct bolt in. So I really would like to get some answers from some body that has done this before. That could give me some heads up advice.

I'm thinking that swapping bodies is the way to go here. Keeping the entire frame and drivetrain intact eliminates a lot of the fitment issues.
Several guys here have done this.

That probably would be my best bet. My 68 is a short bed, whereas the 84 is a long bed so I would have to shorten the frame.
How many of you guys have done the body swap????? This is what I'm thinking now.

Is the`68 a coil or leaf rear?All I know about the body swap is the later frame rises up more.So,with the bed on the frame,as normal,the cab and clip need about a 2" body lift.The frame is longer in front and the `68 core support will sit behind the later frame mounts.You may be able to move the mounts back,not sure how the spring perches affect that.I`ve seen where guys drill holes in the frame and support to make a different mounting point.

The donor truck is a 4wd & the recipient is a 2wd. Which is it you want to end up with? 2 or 4wd? That makes a difference on what could be considered the 'easier' way to proceed.

I just got finished using a 1976 4wd to convert my 2wd 67 gmc to 4wd. I considered the body swap but deceided to convert using the 67 frame and 76 suspension. I didn't take any pics but it's sitting in the garage and i could get you some. It was a pain in the a##! The body swap is easier. I didn't have an A-frame or else i would have just swapped bodies. Either way i can give you some pointers. Send me a PM.
