Some help please....heat defrost cables..

Searched and couldn't find anything on this, my heater/ defrost cables are very difficult to move, and will actually move back after sliding the lever either way. Any advise on how to lubricate the cables, and best way to introduce the lubricant to the cables? Thanks......

Re: Some help please....heat defrost cables..

I took mine out while doing an oil change. Then I laid them in a parts washer for a day. After that they went into the drain pan of used oil.I actually forgot them for a few days. Then I used a vise and pliers to make sure they moved freely. They have been back in the truck for about 9-10 years and still work perfectly.
If you haven't rebuilt the controls it's a good idea. The original levers were of pot metal and break easily while the rebuild kits use steel and are much stronger. Most BB vendors will have the kit(about$20-30 IIRC)

Yeah, take them off and lube them with penetrating oil. On my 68 the have a rubberized exterior and I used spray oil to free them. They're still a little tight but work good.
