How long will a 6.0 last?
Hey all. I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I'm new to the board.
I've got a 2000 Chevy 2500 4x4 (not HD) with 160,000 miles on it. I bought it used with just a little over 100,000 miles. I'm a farmer, but don't use this pickup much for farm work. I'd like to buy a newer pickup, but I'd also like to save money by not making payments (the 2000 is paid off). Basically, I'm trying to figure out if I should buy a new truck or not. I've heard the 6.0 will go 250,000 miles, and I mostly only drive highway with it. I've never had any mechanical issues with the truck. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks. |

Welcome to the site.
Save your money. Keep the maintenance up to par. Today's roller block engines can go well past 200000 miles. Don't let it over heat. Heat can ruin the aluminum heads. If you only drive it on the highway, it will last for years. Use a good oil and good replacement parts. |

I have a 03 1500HD with 102K on it, and it runs just as good as the day I got it. Haven't had to replace anything on it. Just keep up with the routine maintenance like stated above, and save the extra money for more toys.

Re: How long will a 6.0 last?
Our biggest problem was the fuel pump went out and it died at a stop light on a MAJOR corner...

My dad has a 2001 with 310k so I wouldnt worry about the durability of the 4.8, 5.3 OR 6.0 engines.

Just saw a 02 1500HD with 270K on craiglist. Now granted the guy is trying to sell it, but he said he's never had a problem, and it runs great.

I have 150k on mine. just had the left head off to replace broken ex manifold bolts. there was no where at all on the cylinders, could still see the cross hatch. everything was clean as a whissle. i know the motor will way out last the rest of the truck.
