Good evening

I am a newbie to this having just purchased a 1950 GMC 150 that is in real nice shape. I bought it on line and had it shipped 1200 miles or so. So I have little information

I am still learning my way around it and have some questions.

I read the Chevy manual on line and it says the tool kit and jack were stored under the seat in those models years. However my GMC manual makes no such mention. In addition the seat bottom does not seem to come up.

I would like to mount the spare on the side. Is there a supplier who makes that bracket?

Welcome from the SW desert of Arizona.

I think your seat bottom will move back by forcing it a bit to the rear (aprox 1") and lifting it up from the front you should be able to gain acces to the underside for a nice storage area. This seat is like a rear seat in a sedan, push it back and lift it up in the front. That is how I gain access in my GMC. As for the spare tire carrier my truck had a drivers fender that was carved out to set the tire above the running board and there was a bracket bolted to the bed side. There is also a under bed (rear) spare tire carrier that is bolted to the frame behind the axle. I will try and take a pic of this tomorrow

Thanks for the advice. I cant get that seat to budge. Also fine on the wheel. I see I need that push-in on the fender. Too bad, I think the side mount are cool. Unfortunately as nice as the rebuild was on mt truck I guess the tire rack did not make it.

Do you need the cut out on a 3/4 ton? My 1/2 ton has one on both sides but with the extra space in front of the rear fender on a long box will one fit with out the cutout?
If interested I do have one that I believe came off of a 3/4 ton because the bolts are in a bigger circle than my 1/2 ton spare mounts are. The 3/4 ton mount is not quite and deep as the 1/2 tons.

Your truck bieng a 3/4 ton changes things on the spare tire carrier. I am almost positive that the 3/4 ton trucks did not need the indented fender. You should be able to add a side mount spare without changing rear fenders.

Plans now are to keep her stock.

But you know a little better gearing for highway use would make iy more usefull. But if I am going to do that the brakes should be upgraded to disc and the steering changed. AC would be nice too......

Just kidding, since the restorer did it up pretty naturally I think I will keep it like that

I went out and took some pics of the mounts that I have. The one on the left is one that I took off of a half ton the other one I found in a shed so I'm guessing it's a 3/4 ton because of the differences between the two.
