4 Speed manual gear oil, how much?

all i could find in my shop manual was what weight of gear oil to use, but no where can i find how much. it simply says "fill it till it over flows"

well how much is that? i bought 3 quarts and put it in and it still isn't full, or at least over flowing.

any idea how much more i am going to need?

its a 68 c20 with a 4 speed.

They generally take 6 pints. If you put in 3 qts. Stick your finger bin the hole. It will probably be level. If its just a little lower then the opening it will be fine.

ya, i've tried the "finger in the hole" method and i can't feel any oil. i can't imagine its going to take much more.

should i grab another quart and try to squeeze some more in there?

6 pints is the same as 3 quarts, so i should be right there.

A 465 4 speed will take every git of a gallon plus a few ounces depending on how long it was drained or if it was completely rebuilt and bone dry
