Need some advice!
Hey,
Ive been looking for a 73-87 4x4 that i can drive daily to school and work. Ive been looking and ive found 2 pretty nice rigs. 1978 GMC jimmy 454 4 speed 4x4 lifted low kms on the motor then 1979 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 305 auto 4x4 4 inch lift 80 xxx km's on the motor. Now what im wondering was, will the 79 not have sufficiant power from the 305 ? Would i get terrible gas milage? What kind of gas milage would you think id get in the 78 jimmy with that big block? worse than the 79 with the 305? What truck do you guys think? http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...406788843.html http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...372972112.html

Re: Need some advice!
man i like 'em both. i'd say the Jimmy is worth more. those 305 are gutless. the 454 is a swap since no Blazers had big blocks from the factory. love those slotted mags on the Jimmy

Re: Need some advice!
I would stay away from the one with the lift, just because of that wear and tear on suspinsion and drivetrain

Re: Need some advice!
I would go with the blazer, basically because I like them more than pickups.
Also the 454 will put a grin on your face that will not quite turn to a frown when you have to fill it up. In all reality I bet they get similar mileage. Most would drive the 305 truck harder to make it a little fun so the 454 trucks isn't driven quite as hard. I would bet 9-10 for both |

Re: Need some advice!
I think the mpg is going to be similar. Maybe 8 mpg for the Jimmy and 10 for the pickup. When it is that low it really doesn't matter. Get the one you like better. They both look nice in the pics. I would look for rust in the floor or the jimmy.

I like the Jimmy a little more. Looks pretty dang nice in the pics. I would make sure that all the seals are good though since it has been stored for a while. Nothing to add to what everyone else has said.

Re: Need some advice!
Yeah I agree with everyone else. I think the mpg will be pretty even. The only difference may be if you need the extra room the truck would provide in the bed. However the Jimmy would provide more passenger room. So still a toss up, but to me the Jimmy looks better between the two.
