Thanks...

Looking for a new steering wheel, 6 lug hubs for the front and am wondering if those mirrors were an option in 1970.

Anyone???

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?

the reason it has five in th efront is because of the disc brake swap, you need to swap you rear to match or get to the junk yard to scalp up all the parts for the 6lug disc swap.

You didn't get screwed. I look at it this way; What for 9K can you get in a used truck? Not much, and to get one that looks cool, drives cool, and is what you wanted, how did you go wrong? I am in the same position as you. I am driving a nice survivor daily that will be my son's some day (he doesn't know). Till then, I will enjoy it and worry about resto closer to his 16th birthday.

Not remorseful whatsoever, just seeing if I'm indeed the couple grand behind to begin with that I suspect I might be (depending on it's scarcity).

REAL QUESTION IS: How many of these little creatures were made? (Short, Wood, Fleet, CST/10 400)

My dilemna is that it's SUCH a quality starting point on one hand (deserving a proper resoration IMHO) vs. a new factory matched colored paint job and calling it a day. Problem is it's dark gold (Fugly!).

Thanks again for the insights...
As far as numbers...those statistics are no longer avaliable but the productions numbers in 1970 were low when compared to 71-72 model years due to the UAW union strike in 1970. I believe the reasons for no stats is because of a fire which destroyed a lot of GM records. As far as "scarcity" ... From various readings I would say a truck like yours were less than 10% of the C10's produce that year with your options. Reason I remember is I too have a fully loaded 70cst BB C10 and the factory options such as 402BB, ac, buckets etc were not highly desirable back in those days like they were in later years so the production numbers are low. It was in 67-72 that our trucks went from being a work truck to a work/passenger truck. You will find more 71-72 trucks with creature comforts than say a 67-68 model year. Also we need to keep in mind that scarcity or rare does not always make it desirable...but in this case it does. Did you get ripped...thats your call because only you can decide if your were ripped. From what I can see...if a truck like yours were for sale in the midwest that would be a very good deal but in todays times the prices are a little soft. After 2 years of restoration my truck hopefully will be completed in about a month. For the most part it will remain stock with the exception of a 2/4" drop and 5 lug with disc brakes added. Thats my story and I will stick to it.

Truly amazing how unmolested this truck is. Just try to find one with this equipment and no rust. Yep you can buy a nice restored truck for what $10K-30K. Not very many original trucks out there any more.
