Is it odd of me...

...to be considering going real old school with my 70 and ditching the 15x8 Blazer rims for a set of pizza cutters and some old style skinny tires?

For some reason I think it would be badass with a set of OEM style steelies painted white with some Gateway Buckshots Mudders or another similar tire on it.

Re: Is it odd of me...

How about 15 x 8 steelies and dog dishes and keep some meat on it?

Re: Is it odd of me...

Did you put disc brakes on it? The old steelies are not made to clear discs. Of course you can get new "old" steelies that will clear.

See, I hadn't thought about that one. I am sure there are some steelies that will do it, but not original style ones.

Re: Is it odd of me...

I like my beefy tires but I also like old school pizza cutters.... go for it!

Dunno what style you're interested in or how original-looking you want -- but if 15s won't clear your discs, how about 16s? Or you could safely grind a small amount of material from the discs and run the 15s. I did that many years ago when I put 15x8s with Armstrong True Tracs on my K20.

Re: Is it odd of me...

When I get the money to do so, I plan on swappin out my current shoes. Which are the 16.5's my burb spent most of it's life on, and they are runnin 33" BFG's right now. But I want to go to a 16" steel wheel with something like these on them, but old school style off road tires like the Armstrongs are far and few between if non existent.

I still remember as a kid how the burb would bump up and down from the flat spots on all the Armstrong nylon belted tires, they would get round again after a few miles of driving when they heated up though.

Bingo. I was looking at some STA Trailbreakers this morning. I'll bet that'll be one hell of a ride at 65-70 on the freeway.

Re: Is it odd of me...

vectorit, those Armstrongs are what I started with on my K20, back in 1977. Bias-ply M&S 7.50-16s, nylon cord, 8-ply rated, tough as nails and twice as hard -- had to keep your mouth closed if you had any loose fillings.
