Re: HOW do you remove spindles and control arms
Removing the tie rod end from the spindle will also get you a little more "swing room" for the hammer.

Re: HOW do you remove spindles and control arms
Don't hit the ball joint directly with a hammer. It will just mushroom, and make it even harder to remove.

Re: HOW do you remove spindles and control arms
Keith, Longhair,
Thanks for the input I've tried all those methods and got no where. So I got an air hammer and pickle fork bit and I'm gonna give it a shot tomorrow. I'm just not that motivated to go out to the garage. That's all. But I'll let you know what happens. Thanks guys.

Re: HOW do you remove spindles and control arms
Well, I should be wearing a helmet and be in "special" classes. Why you ask. Well, it was dark when I was working on the 69 the other night, I hadn't unpacked my shop light, and was hitting the bump stop bracket. Not the spindle. One whack, POP, all done. Noe the driver side will be trickier since the springs were heated to lower the front. (PO) With the weight off the springs there is no tension on lower A-arm. So do I put the jack under the backing plate of the drum and do the same as the other side?

Re: HOW do you remove spindles and control arms
Matt,... you need "down pressure". A long pry bar putting pressure on the lower control arm should work,... while you hammer on the spindle.
Do the uppers first then the lowers.
