Re: Broke transfer case

If it's a part-time 4wd it's a NP205 if it's full-time it's a NP203. check Craigslist and bone yards. Shipping will kill ya if you have to have one shipped. If you can get parts they are easy to rebuild. They are tough as nails.

Re: Broke transfer case

Ok ! ... So I got under there and checked it out. The rear driveshaft yolk coming out the t-case has some up and down play(aprox1/4in.) and the rear diff gears are gone !!! ( can turn the driveshaft aprox 1/3 turn) !!! So it looks like I need atleast a bearings in the t-case and gears in the diff ! I think that I've got a 14 bolt and 3/4 ton front 10 bolt out of a 81 that I can prolly get pretty cheep(800$ or so) u guys think I should go 3/4 ton or put a Detroit locker in the 12 bolt ?

Re: Broke transfer case

dude $800 is way too much for a 10 bolt and 14 bolt even if they are a matched set. You shouldn't pay over $400 for that combo.

Re: Broke transfer case

I just sold a 74 k10 for $100 with both axles in good working order. It's the truck I have been advertising on here for the last 6 months. I kept the 350/203 as spares for my truck. There is a sm465/205 combo in Boise Craigs list for $250. There are lots of K10 series axle up here for a lot less than $800. You can probably pick up a complete K20 truck for that. Economy is forcing lots of people to clean up their back yards. Shipping would be a bit but you might be able to find someone heading to Vegas for a vacation that would toss them in the back of their truck for some gas money. If they are truly getting $400 an axle I may be starting a new business.

Re: Broke transfer case

I agree on the price it's high. If it were a 14 bolt/dana 60 and had a locker and the right gears, $800 would be good.

Re: Broke transfer case

there are some 14 bolt 6 lug diffs in later trucks, still semi floaters but beefier than your 12 bolt.

Re: Broke transfer case

Re: Broke transfer case

you won't like the locker on the road though.. I would buy a cheap 12-bolt with matching gears for your front and then add a posi-trac of some kind.
