Swapping 87 Speedo to 91 Suburban Speedo w /Trip OD - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Went to the local Wreckers and found a nice mint gauge cluster with a trip odometer. Since trucks didn't come with one I was wondering If there was anything to lookout for before I swap this in? I noticed that the Suburban Speedo has some sort of "eye" plugged in the back. I cant remember what its for... the wires go to a mint green box?

Also scored a Pulse module for the wipers, wiper hose clips and a rear tail light w/chrome all for under $30.

It should go right in. I have one in my 82.

The sensor is the vehicle speed sensor.

um...that 91 cluster might be electric speedo.
Is there provision for a speedo cable?
Mint green box "should" be for cruise?

speed sensor for what? the cruise? yea it has a speedo cable provisions.

If memory serves me correctly the speed sensor was used for torque converter lockup.

on my 86 it was for cruise...when installing my alarm, I forgot to reconnect it and wondered why my cruise did not work...then I remembered.
one of those duh moments

It was a 91? I thought the 90-91 speedos were electric only. Doesn't matter though I guess if it has the provision for the cable.

Only if they have the NP241 transfer case or on the 91 2wd models had the overdrive trannys. otherwise they were the "OLD SKOOL" cable drives
