What would you do?

So I have decided to swap the frame on Bessie over to the 72 C10 frami I just picked up. I want to use the truck as a driver, home depot, dump run, haul a small traier type of goto truck. No really heavy hauling will be done without the use of a trailer.

Now I have some decisions to make. the frame is a GMC frame so it has a leaf sprung 12 bolt under it. Bessie has the 3/4 ton coil / trailing arm setup with a reversed leaf overload setup. I cant decide if I want to keep the 1/2 ton leaves or if I want to swap in the 1/2 ton axle using the 3/4 ton coils and trailing arms? I eventually want to drop her down 3-4 inches in the rear with a C-notch.

So basically I want a 5 lug Daily driver that can haul a load with a decent stance....throw me some opinions on this

Re: What would you do?

From what you described of the Gmc frame and what you want to do with it, I would just keep the leafs. I have leafs on mine and dropped the rear 5". I have hauled prob. 1000# in it and it bottomed out once. I did pull a 5X10 trailer with a new crate 350 with an engine lift in the bed of the truck and It did really well. If you only want to go 3 or 4 inches, you could load it up and probably not have any problems. Plus you won't need a c-notch with only 3-4 inches of drop. Hope this helps.

Re: What would you do?

Thanks for the info Nicolas... How did you drop yours? new springs, shackles or a combo of both? Do you have a pic of the stance?

Re: What would you do?

You're welcome. I used 4" drop leafs from ECE and two position shackles from brothers. The shackles have two positions to tailor it to what you need. I think 1"and 2" drops. I used the 1" spot. Since we can't post pics right now, you'll have to wait or go to my profile I have some there.
