intakes??????
does anyone know if they make an after market intake for a 96-98 sbc 350 that will let you keep the stock style fuel injection? I'm wanting to rebuild my 98 gmc half ton, and i wanna keep it stock style because its my daily driver. any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: intakes??????
Whats wrong with your intake? If its damaged buy a good used one or a GM one. theres probably a cheap china made replacment intake but i whould not go that route.

Re: intakes??????
the reason i want another one is because im building a 383 to put in to it but i wanna keep it stock style and be able to get the perfomance out of it.... im not to sure if the factory intake will flow enough air and fuel for it, i guess if i reprogram the computer it should be ok. so thank you guys for your input on it!!!!!

Re: intakes??????
What about replacing the intake components with some from an LT-series engine like a Vette? A larger-diameter throttle body might be all you would need, with maybe a little assistance from a JET chip, etc.

Re: intakes??????
lt1 intakes wont work with the vortec heads, the TB on a vortec intake is almost like a LS series TB. they make bigger TBs for the vortec intake and also a spacer that goes between the plastic top hat and manifold. the design of the intake itself isnt a performance intake and they carbon up really bad, theres a gm injector upgrade that replaced the popit to an accual injector but its more for reliability instead of performance.

Re: intakes??????
Last thing I want to do is to steer someone in the wrong direction. Thanks for the info. I remember reading something one time that was about swapping some components on a non-TBI engine. Maybe it was related to Mustangs in the 90's. Brain damage is rampant in my house.....

Re: intakes??????
Just putting in my two cents, I've seen posts on the FSC boards about taking the marine intake (for injector changeability) and modifying it for truck purposes. Takes a little work, and I can't quite remember right off hand what it took, but I can look it up for you if you're interested in doing a bit of custom intake work.

Re: intakes??????
I don't think this is the post I was thinkin of, but it contains much of the same info, and a Linky to GMPerformance forum, with more good info.
I'm going to have to remember all this, maybe someday I'll save up a paycheck or two and do a supercharger, intake, injectors, and everything performance in there... then blow it up, and rebuild from the intake down

Re: intakes??????
I have a nephew with a '79 T/A. It had a 403 Olds in it from the git-go, but he bought/built a 455, boring it to 468. Then, he found a program to build you own electronic fuel injection (on the internet). So, using the stock Q-Jet intake, he added FoMoCo 30/lb/hour injectors in a port injection style and the old Q-Jet became a throttle body. I haven't ridden in it but he says it is respectable....way more than the '89 IROC 350 that he dropped in his old '88 S-10 Extended cab with a 700R4.
So, maybe a port injection system is an idea.
