Re: Chrome repair help

Most good/quality chrome shops have their own repair fecilities in-house for dent removal and such. I would contact a quality restoration shop nearby, ask where they get their chroming done (or who they recommend), then give THEm a call and ask about restoration and re-chroming. I am nearing that stage in my resto, and will be doing the same thing.

Re: Chrome repair help

Call a few places in the yellow pages and they should be able to give a ballpark estimate. Look under the category "Plating"

Re: Chrome repair help

Just remember, not all chrome shops do the same quality work. This is why I suggest calling a few places for a referral. Looking in the yellow pages will indeed give you an estimate, but it won't always tell you how good of a job they do. Same goes for painters.

There is a place on North Main in Fort Worth. Just north of the Stockyards I think.

I know it is brushed aluminum but most of the time guys that do chrome repair know how to weld on thin brushed aluminum I think you can do it with a tig welder or an abrasion rod welder and then buff it with some kinda of disk to put the brushed look back

I know the difference between chrome and aluminum I am trying to get some real answers.

Also does the chrome brackets that you have on your ram jet do they get scratched from adjusting them. I like the look of them and when i went to his website I could not find a complete kit for a big block. I just want a set up that puts everything in its factory position.

I wasn't implying you don't know the difference, just trying to understand what you were doing. I have spent many hours inside a platers shop and have a pretty good understanding of what they are capable of accomplishing. If you want to have your band stripped, fixed and polished they might be the place to go. If you want them to restore the brushed finish, you would be money ahead by buying one that is in mint condition

The brackets I have are premium quality pieces at a very reasonable price. Just like any chrome piece if you compress it with a bolt it will leave mark. I am still very pleased with them and given a choice I wouldn't hesitate to go this route again.
