that part is called a "pole Piece" by GM or a pickup coil by most others. it is held on by a small snap ring that fits in a grouve in the bearing sleeve that the shaft goes through. after yo remove the snap ring you can remove th pole piece by prying it up off the bushing, it fits tight so take your time.
