Shaved Door Handles w/out poppers, what did YOU do?

I'm gonna shave my door handles this weekend. I wasn't planning on using poppers and solenoid. I figured I'd reach in through the vent window for the handle. I was telling a buddy and he suggested running a cable and said a lot of guys do this in conjunction with poppers in case of battery failure.

So I was curious if anyone has done it with the cable. I imagine I'd want it out of sight just for keeping the install clean. So if any of you have done this, how'd you go about it? Pics are even better.

Thanks for the help and thanks for this great forum.

***EDITED TO ADD***
I know I'm not running a cable to the inside handle, lol.

the way I heard, you run it through the door pillar, and access it under the fender.
I would suggest runnung a bike brake cable as opposed to a choke/vent style auto cable.. the bike cable is teflon lined, and designed to bend a little, and probably won't bind up on you.

Re: Shaved Door Handles w/out poppers, what did YOU do?

when I did my 64 Galaxie I used solinoids,poppers , remotes,and a backe up cable.
Back in the day I shaved a 4 door impala. I ran a Bike shifter cable from the door thru the door frame and out of the fender as jon mentioned. I also used some screen door rollers to help route the cable.
I did only the drivers door and would lean over to open the pasanger side, kinda of a pain but it was cheep and it worked

Thanks guys. Great tip for the bike cable, I was going to use a choke cable. The bike cable sounds way better. I'll post pics after this weekend. I haven't been able to do anything for a week, it's been raining here every day. I've been going through withdrawals, lol.

Re: Shaved Door Handles w/out poppers, what did YOU do?

I had an electric door lock motor behind the door panel that was connected to the inside door handle gear with a rod then a button under the cab corner you could kick with your toe and when it would pull the actuator the door would come open about an inch by itself. As for an emergany lockout I used a bicycle brake cable mounted to the firewall under the hood with the adjustment scerws holding it in place and then run through the jamb up to the door handle gear and just pull on it and it would stay open till you went around and pulled the door open.

I am and it is for sale. I was going to keep making improvements until it sold though. I don't want to just quit working on it because it's for sale. I mean, I'd hate for it not to sell for some reason and have no progress on it for months.
