How hard is it to change? I can get a new pump "discounted" at Orielly's. Is this a one man job? Never dropped the tank before. Anything I should check or watch out for?

Hi Guy,
We need to know what kinda vehicle it is going in.

If it is a pre-87 truck it is a piece of cake.
Two bolts and three lines are all there is to it.
Just use a flare-nut wrench on the fuel line.
Check your rubber hose while you are at it and make sure it is good.

It's an 87 with a TBI... pretty sure it's an electric pump in tank.

Far easier to take off the bed if you have plenty of help.

It will just be me, g. I'm going to do it Monday morning. Just looking for any advice from anyone thats done it before so I don't run into unexpected problems!

Here is one thread I found about a fuel system silmilar to yours.
Consider it,

Don't know about the Tahoe tanks fitting our trucks, but My Tahoe has a 31 gal tank. The replacement fuel pump for it was 325.00 at the dealer. The 2 fuel lines I bent when dropping the tank were 171.00 special order from the dealer.
The problem with older Suburban tanks, as I understand it, is they hang Very Low in the rear of our trucks.

Only problem you might have is if you break one of the straps. Check the ground strap for the tank. Change the selector valve while you are under the truck. Unhook everthing before you pull the tank out. Remember the hose filler neck too.

Is the selector valve a dealership only item? How much are they?

I got mine form a AC Delco supplier for $65. I wouldn't get a cheap one from a parts store since they ccan be a paint to change. Mine was easy
