Hey guys, I was trying to find the thread on drilling the holes in a 58-59 cab so I can put a 55 front clip on it.

Im looking for how (where) to drill the holes for the hood hinges on the cab.

Take a straight edge and clamp it onto the firewall lip. Measure down from the under side of the straight edge 2 1/8" for the top hole and 5" for the bottom hole. The vertical line should be 9" from the hand brake/column support welded nut that is on the firewall. The old holes should be 2 3/8" down and 5 3/4" down and 9" from that welded nut.

ok... so for a recap... from what you said it sounds like both the new and the old holes are on the same vertical line 9" from the welded nut mentioned.

So if the existing ones are 2 3/8" & 5 3/4" down then all I should have to do is:

drill a hole 1/4" above the existing top hole

and

drill a hole 3/4" above the existing bottom hole.

Is that correct?

I'm having the same issue with mine 'cause it's actuallly a 58 with the 57 clip. Let us know how it turns out!!!

On mine (before the tilt hood) I used the 55 57 hindges and used the factory holes. All I had to do was grind away the top corner so it would clear the lip that gose around the firewall. I'm not sure way you would have to drill any holes at all.

I also had to elongate the holes on the hindge to try and allow it it sit LOWER on the firewall, but the hood is still high in the rear.

I've asked Dennis57 to take measurements from his 57 since he has the front clip removed. Would like to get a definite answer too!

Hey guys. I measured the holes from the bottom of a straight edge that was laid across the top of the lip on the firewall and I got.

2 3/8 to the top hole and 5 3/16 to the bottom hole.

The holes on the 58 cab are

2 3/8" & 5 3/4"

I have a 55 Cab I will check in the morning.

I also have a picture i can post then too.

Dennis it looks like your cab is a cross between a 55 and 58 from the info given.... you have a hybrid

I had the same issue. All I did was make the holes bigger on the hinges and everything lines up perfect.

Here is the picture for the 58 measurements (sorry for poor quality)

The measurements for the 55 were 2 1/4" for the top and 5 1/8" for the bottom

(both measurements are only about 1/8" off in the same direction from the measurements listed by dwcsr)

At least you can clearly see there is a difference between the two.

The angle on the second picture makes it look like less than 5, but I assure you its just a little more that 5"
