Tailpipes

i'm finally at the stage of looking for tail pipes for my truck. I'm kinda set on getting pipes straight out the back. all i am finding though is split side after the wheel, or side exhaust before the wheel. i still have yet to find a set of tails that exit straight back.

anyone have any suggestions on what to run? right now i'm running long tubes, pypes xpipe, and flowmaster dumps. little too noisy at the moment.

any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

also, running 2.5 all the way back, on a 305, but plan to go with a 454 so i went with 2.5. would it be better to stick with 2.5 tails, or drop to 2 1/4 or up to 3 inch?

Re: Tailpipes

If you drop to 2 1/4 or 2 it will cackle when you lay into it, but if you just cruise it would be fine. It will be obnoxious to the neighbors if have it set up like mine.

Re: Tailpipes

flowmaster makes complete systems with different exits and in different pipe sizes or at least they used to. you might check their website

Re: Tailpipes

Find a reputable muffler shop and have them fab the pipes. Most of that premade stuff only works if you buy the whole system from the same company and there's no guarantee it will fit right, especially with all the different rear bumpers these trucks came with. A good muffler shop can fab up exactly what you want, and how you want it. Stick with 2.5 pipe.

i love the crackle with some pipes. i just got rid of my 77 T/A with a BB400 and 4speed. had 2.5 pipe, 3inch chambered mufflers, and 2.25 tails. insane amount of crackle lol

i'm just looking for a nice sound, not just to be loud and obnoxious, but a great sounding system. i've already got 500 into the exhaust, and want something great.

contacted most of the big exhaust makers and i got nowhere(flowmaster, magnaflow, etc).

I just want 'that' sound. when it sounds like you got a BAMF!! lol

Re: Tailpipes

Guys, I finally found the video I made and uploaded it to youtube. This was made just about a year ago right after I got the intermediate pipes replaced. It dies because I had used some bad gas from a station that shall remain unnamed. I will make a new one soon.

Thanks
Benjamin.

I'm running stock manifolds on the 350 into 2.25" back to the mufflers. The mufflers are what I believe to be 16" Cherry Bombs that where on it when I bought it. And the tailpipes are 2" from the mufflers on back with Tennessee Tips "Old School" Rolled Lip chrome tips.

I love it and it screams when you manually go first, second, drive with your foot almost on the floor. Trust me, my dad could hear me almost a mile away doing just that.

Re: Tailpipes

damn. i got headers, xpipe, and flow 40s, and it doesnt have any crack to it. seriously considering 2.25 tails, but if i eventually go to a 454, i dont want to 'cork' it up with such small pipe, might just go with 2.5 to be on the safe side.

Re: Tailpipes

I wouldn't go with a 454 even if someone offered to give me one. The way gas prices are it's too expensive. There's nothing like the sound of a small block. Especially mine.

I'll try to get a newer video up ASAP for ya.
