Help - 12 bolt rear swap for 71 C10 4X4
I had my 12 bolt powdercoated after chem stripping but the pitting from the rust caused it to look terrible. As a result I am in the market for a replacement.
My question to the forum is what kind of problem would I run into if I swapped my 12 bolt for a 85 silverado 4X4 12 bolt? Anyone know if the dimensions are the same? Thanks, Shawn |

Re: Help - 12 bolt rear swap for 71 C10 4X4
I don't think the '85 will have a 12 bolt- unless someone swapped it in, it should have a 10 bolt. either way, as long as it is the same gear ratio, it can be made to work. I have a '75ish rear under my '68. You have to move the leaf spring perches in closer, move the shock mounts and swap park brake cables. Check the yoke for u-joint size too.
