2wd to 4x4 frame swap
Im looking to buy a 4x4 frame and switch my 69 2wd over because i want it lifted "my preference" because no one makes a kit for the 2wd but everyone under the sun has one for the 4x. Has anyone done this or know of the work that is involved? i figure almost all would mount up? just have to replace the body mounts and such but then again i have no clue? pics of any conversions? Thanks, Mark

Re: 2wd to 4x4 frame swap
I just finished putting a 67 2wd body on a 71 4x4 frame, you will need 4x4 or 3/4 ton body mounts and a high center hump for the floor of the cab other wise it bolted right on.

Re: 2wd to 4x4 frame swap
As long as you get a '69-'72 frame it will all go together relatively easy. The '67's and '68's use oddball springs, but you could work around that by changing the spring hangers to the FGB52's and a first gen shackle flip from DIY4X.

Re: 2wd to 4x4 frame swap
I have some pics just need to figure out how to post them again. The truck is on a stock suspension and sits about 4 inches higher than the 2wd (the rear bumper is about knee high to me I am 6'1").

Re: 2wd to 4x4 frame swap
If you only want to fit larger tires you could probly just piece together a couple things cheaper and easier than swapping frames. Couple inches of body lift 2 or 3" will run bout a hundred bucks. Even if you can't get a complete lift kit you can get another maybe 2 or 3" from some taller front springs. A spring over axle swap in the rear will get about 4" in the back.

Re: 2wd to 4x4 frame swap
Why not convert your 2x to 4x with the 2x frame. If you want to lift it any way. It will be mutch easyer than a full frame swap. and if you lift it you wont be using the stock 4x springs any way. what you need it a DYoffroad b52 kit, that will be all your mounts. and also one of ther engine cross member kits. then a pair of stock 52" springs. a front axle, preferabley with disk brakes. and a u bolt kit. You can do a shakel flip in the rear or just add blocks. you can keep the 2wd steering box and do a cross over steering , or swap to a 4x box. and then sorce a t case. This is the best rout IMO unless you hve a doner 4x4 that is all ready to go. Other wise even if you find a 4x4 frame and axles, you will need to add your lift, and go through the axles, and then still swap the body, engine, and tranny.
