I bought a 1969 Chevy c20 with a 8 lug rear end that came out of a 1994 Chevy tahoe 2500 ser .
Ok so im really confused.. The whole rear is over to the drivers side two inchs more than the pass. side .. But the where the drive shaft conncts its it is not dead center of the axle.Its over one inch to the pass side.. Is it suppose to be centered or what? The rear in my 1969 chevy C20 came out of a 1994 chevy tahoe 2500.. can someone help me?... PLEASE...

you don't want the yoke centered, the U joints NEED some angle to work prroperly.

Ok so if i move the axle to the pass side one inch the yoke would be off center by one inch.. Is that okay

I know that this is a couple of days old, but I thought I'd chime in.

I think that the differential yoke being off-center with the transmission or carrier bearing is not the big issue (an inch should be okay), but the thing that you want to watch for is angle. AFAIK, the front and rear yokes need to be operating in parallel planes.

I would say you want it centered in all aspects.

airdale, you talking wheels being centered left to right, or are you talking about the diff?
They made the diff off center for a reason, and they've been doing it for the last 100 years or so.

Well I was talking about all of it. I've never heard of them making it off center on purpose. My experience is more a general knowledge, cars and such, not specifically chevy trucks. I know there always woried about their pinion angle. A u-jount is designed to take up those unavoidable instances. I can't see them purposely putting a angle in there. I've never seen one that wasn't centered, right to left.
