1970 c10 hates me
so I've been driving my 70 c10 (the black one I did the chassis swap on) to work for about 3 days now. Got her up and running alright. Well, until about 2 hours ago when i went to drive her down to kragen's to test the alternator. Got about 3 blocks from my house when the rear wheels locked up on me. Kind of feel lucky i got her off the road all the way. I thougt it was the transmission first, but it's shifting through all the gears fine. I'm going to disconnect the driveshaft tomorrow, and then i'll know for sure if it's the rearend or the transmission. Luckily I bought both at the local junkyard I'm friends with the owners at, so it's really a matter of me going down tomorrow and telling them the parts they sold me were toast. Not too worried tho. I think the previous owner of the diff welded it so it'd be a locker so there's a good chance that's what happened. Well just thought I'd vent. Just another problem I've run into on this thing. It's SO gonna be worth it when I'm done. Gnight.

Atleast you don't have a Kali emissions truck. NOTHING fits that would be considered universal for any other small block.

Re: 1970 c10 hates me
If the transmission shifts at all, it's not the transmission. You said that the PO welded the rear end to make it like a locker. That's NOT a locker, it's a solid rear axle. I'll just betcha that the problem is in the differential.

Re: 1970 c10 hates me
So I went down and talked to my friend and he said from what it sounds like to him the transmission is stuck in two gears. It's a saginaw 4 speed with two rings on the input shaft. Sounds right too me too, I had just shifted into third when the problem happened, plus my linkage was a little loose and sloppy. I'm still going to pull the driveshaft to make sure, but I'm actually happier if it's the transmission and not the rear diff. My friend at the junkyard's gonna come over saturday if i can't get it. Plus I"m not SURE if the guy welded the diff, it just wouldn't surprise me cuz he's kind of a moron. The reason I got the chassis in the first place was because he got caught with lbs upon lbs of pot in the truck, his truck got impounded and he went to jail. From impound it got sold to the junkyard, where I picked up his whole rolling chassis for $500. Well, off to go have fun I guess. Any other ideas you guys might have?OH YEAH one more thing. As of right now the engine won't start. Think maybe with the rearend hopping all over the place something came disconnected? I'm also not getting headlights, my taillights are barely on.
