Fuel pump to carb fuel line options - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm looking for a suggestion on how to plumb my truck from the fuel pump to the carb. I have single line holley. The easy route would be rubber, but the reason I first started working on this truck was because of a fire caused by a cheap specter fuel filter and a rubber line. So does anyone have suggestions? Pictures would be helpful.

i ran mine up from fuel pump along bottom of valve cover then up to carb (edelbrock). I dont have pictures but if you REALLY want some i'll go snap some in the dark with a light. lol

I used an off the shelf brake line from Kragen to go from the pump to the intake (cut off one end and bent a 90 degree into it) and then connected a metal Spectre fuel filter to it that with short rubber hoses that then connect to a Spectre Chromed Single Feed Fuel line (part no. 2998) that goes to my Holley 4160. Only have about 5 or 6 inches of rubber being used. Pep Boys and Autozone carry the Spectre stuff.

stel brake line... 3/8 inch
Very easy to do with a bender (10 bucks) and some time to do it right.
Get an extra section of line if you need to learn.
You could always hit up a junk yard for a pre bent piece off another small block.

you can see my fuel line from the pump to the carb I used steel braided with anm fittings..

No pics right now (its raining out) but I went the same route Big Al went. Steel braided with #6 an fittings and a double pumper fuel rail on my Holley 670 Street Avenger. BTW Big Al, I'm liking the inline fuel regulator gauge, nice touch in completing your fuel system setup

For a fuel filter use a all metal oem style replacement "barrel" filter.

i'll always go with the steel brake line route or on more fancy engines braided hoses and an fittigs

I HATE seeing the lazy mans cheap rubber hoses on an otherwise nice build // a fire waiting to happen

I'm Trying to use a 1 piece line from the pump to the carb. Is there any place that I can put a barrel style fuel filter besides between the pump and carb? I was thinking below the tank?

This is what I used on my '69 Camaro. 3/8" aluminum tubing, Edelbrock hard line with filter and AN fittings where everything connected. Very clean.

I bought the alum. tubing and fittings from Speedway(AN ferrule and nut) easy to bend with your hands. Fittings are 36˚, but you can use your 45˚ brake flaring tool, since -6 and -8 are considered multi-angled. Keep your bend as tight as possible down at your fuel pump, since your radiator hose is close by

Adapter in the fuel pump is a inverted flare to a -6 or -8, can't remember
You can put your fuel filter anywhere you want, I used my old coil mount! Still need to finish up the fittings around the filter, and run the new fuel line to the rear

you CAN put it anywhere you want, but it's a good idea to put it after the pump to help reduce the chance of vapor lock.

geez. i never gave a 2nd thought to using.. rubber, silly me, FUEL line.. lol. maybe its just me.

rubber was used forever on cars. i see no problem with is as long as you look every now and then. granted, the metal looks awsome, and i may end up doing it!

have you converted you WHOLE truck to metal? or is it just the one line from the pump to the carb?

Actually from the factory, the only rubber was used in the flex are of the in cab tank to frame hard line and from the frame hard line to the fuel pump. All the rest is hard line, even the one from the pump to the carb. I have had a number of old Chevy cars/trucks with the original setup and they all have been that way unless a PO swapped carbs to a non factory stock one and cut the line up by the carb to use a rubber line.

a clockable fuel pump is nice when doing steel braided.

mine wasn't pointed in the right direction and made the length run out.

looks like big al's is a high rise intake, so my fuel line from summit would have been way short on that there.

building your own steel braided might be fun. lord knows bending tubing can be fun when ya get it right

This is the Summit braided and hard line kit I used on my 67 Camaro for my Holley 3310 dual feed. Great quality stuff, no leaks in over 15 years. I believe Summit makes the same thing for single feed carbs and even other carbs like the Edelbrock and Q-Jet.

Would be better to ask this in a different post than dragging up an old one. It would probably get more attention.

As far as the size goes... you would need to check with the manufacturer of your pump.
