Sounds like you probably have the dana 60 death wobble. It's usually the bushings in the kingpins that are worn that cause it.

Bad or loose wheel bearings can also cause this.

My truck has a slight one between 55-65. Then it goes away. But my buddy who mounted my tires said one wheel is bent and that would probably happen. So, mine is a ballance issue...we think.

A bad tire can also cause a wobble.

Re: what makes a truck has the high speed wobbles

Wheel and tire balance could be an issue. I've seen them all throughout the speed range but usually at the 45-60 mph range. Could be an out of round or separating tire as was stated. In most cases you would feel that throughout all speeds though. Also from my experience, I've had alot of bent dually rims come through the shop. I'd say a good 80% of them we work on. This may be another issue.

I would take it to a good tire shop and have them inspect and balance the tires. This will either fix the problem or help narrow it down.

Re: what makes a truck has the high speed wobbles

Sounds like a good excuse to put on some nice Alcoa aluminum rims and new tires to me

Honest honey, I had to spend $4000 on new wheels & tires for my truck.
