72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
Does anyone know of a dealer that stocks the acelerator rod for 71-72 chevys? I have recently purchased a 72 C20 and the previous owner took a grinder to the gas pedal mount (no idea why) so now there is no way to attach a new pedal. Unless I am dumb and looking in the wrong place LMC and others sell everything but the rod. I want to restore this new project and am in need of some enthusiast help.
Thanks, Kevin

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
I was wondering the same thing as Blue. I believe they used a cable to the carb.

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
My 72 has a throttle cable. I believe 67-69? had rods. I had to go to a junk yard to find one because the parts stores dont carry them.

You need a cable type throttle control for your '72. They didn't use the rod. LockDoc

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
I thought that he wanted the rod that attaches to the cable on top and has the foot pad on the other end, but I may have misunderstood.

I used to live in Harker Heights... on Dove Ln off Harly Ave... welcome to the board! (is Pizza pro's still in buisness?)
Have you ever been out to Harrolds auto salvage? I'd bet a kick in the daddy parts he has a dozen of these old trucks out there. |

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
I wish I could get a picture to help explain this, but I am in Baghdad and my truck is in Missouri. Father-in-law is doing some basic TLC for me and wants to fix this. If it helps and you happen to have a LMC catalog, on page 135 bottom right, it shows the part I need but only as a reference "ghost image". Now I could be completely wrong as to how the pedal attaches, but I assume the pin #4 connects the pedal to the rod using the spring #3 for tension and pedal heel-toe movement.
Thanks again for any assistance. Kevin

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
Sorry for the double post, not a perfect connection.
Longhornman- haven't been to pizza pro, but I have heard of it so it must be in business. I plan to check out all the local yard when I get back eaarly next year, until then I can only work vicariously through my father-in-law. Kevin

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
72 blue is correct, the pedal must connect to something.

Is this what you need? If so, should be able to pick one up without too much trouble from a salvage yard or if there are any members close enough to your FIL that he could pick it up they may just give you one. LockDoc

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
From the first post, it sounds like the PO may have had a custom pedal maybe?
Yes I think there should be a hole in the end of the rod for the pin. Where in MO is your FIL? I see parts on craigslist in SEMO area a lot and there could be a pedal assy FS now on the board somewhere. |

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
I left Ft Hood in early 2001, so I don't know what yards are still there, but they all sucked anyways. Harrolds is like 48 miles from the police station in HH... but was always worth the drive. I've seen it still talked about on the web whenever I would do a search.

Re: 72 Chevy Accelerator Rod Needed
LockDoc- That is what I need. I guess I'll send "Dad" to the yards to look.
All- I can't believe none of the big names sell this part. Maybe it is not worth their time or maybe most people don't grind theirs to a useless state. Either way thanks for all the help. Kevin
