The dipstick is supposed to press into the block. If it doesn't stay, just replace it with a new dipstick. You can probably get a chrome one from Advance/O'Reileys for $10-$15 bucks.

Re: dip stick won,t stay

Loose where?

You mean the tube won't stay pushed into the oil pan or the indicator stick won't stay pushed into the tube?

Tube in oil pan: Put some RTV around the base of the tube and push it in.

Stick in the tube: you could crimp the shield slightly so that there is some resistance to putting it in. Or, in some high performance applications where the blow by in the crankcase is pushing the stick out - some guys have taken a short piece of hose or rubber and put it around the stick and the tube, clamping it with small hose clamps.

Re: dip stick won,t stay

if the hole dipstick tube is wiggling around in the block just pull it out and SLIGHTLy crush the tube where it goes into the block, but not down by the end. then a little rtv and slide it back in

I agree. Those chrome one's never seem to fit tightly. When I installed those, I usually taper the tip on the bench grinder, then use a little RTV and tap it in. Tapering the end to get it started usually helps for some reason on those 'chromies'.
