Potential profits parting out a truck...
I have a '71 long bed A/C cab C-10 that has a ton (Maybe all) of original parts, especially under the hood. Is it worth the effort parting it out as opposed to just selling it outright?
This isn't an advertisement, I'm strictly asking for opinions and experiences.

Does your truck run and drive if so id suggest selling it complete parting out a truck needs a lot of time energy and patience not to mention youll usually sell a few parts and have a hard time selling the rest though you can get more money parting it

Re: Potential profits parting out a truck...
I pulled the motor and tranny a year ago so it's just a rolling chassis. It has all of the a/c parts and accessory brackets under the hood and most of the body parts are pretty straight. I have the patience to part it out, I was just wondering if it was worth the time as far as the money goes.
How do you guys go about shipping the items? Straight to the UPS store?

Re: Potential profits parting out a truck...
Hello from just down HWY 79 in Round Rock. Just my 2 cents but if the 71 is all there (minus engine and transmission) and in as good of shape as you say it would be a shame to part out a truck that would be such an easy rebuild. But than again I hate to see any truck that can be saved parted out.

It's cheaper to have your own FEDEX account for shipping, that or use USPS flat rate boxes. FEDEX sometimes suprises you with the invoice being higher than the online quote. Most UPS store type places add their middle man fee onto the shipping charges.
as for the truck, i'd try to sell it whole and if that didn't work out then start with major parts (bed, clip, cab etc..) before the small items. Once they are gone then it's hard to get rid of the rest..

Re: Potential profits parting out a truck...
I would only part it out, IF you have the time to dedicate to parting it out. To look at what teeitup (Randy) and several of the other board members do, they dedicate a ton of time and effort to getting the truck parted, parts listed, communication with prospective buyers, and then shipping the items. You have to allow time for payments to be received,... so on.
As far as parting the truck, it you can sell it whole, it's fast and easy money. If you can part it out, you can usually end up making more in the long run, depending on what your time is worth. Before all.... support the board by donating $25; it will be the best money you will ever spend.
